Manchester United’s legendary goal-keeper, Peter Schmeichel, has urged Schalke’04 goal-keeper, Manuel Neuer to join the Red Devils.
Manchester United beat Schalke 2-0 in the first-leg of the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, April, 26. Neuer made a string of splendid saves otherwise the score-line could have shown five or six goals for United.
United’s first choice goal-keeper, Edwin Van Der Sar is set to retire from professional football at the end of the 2010-11 season. Sir Alex Ferguson is in the market to find a replacement for the great Dutchman and Schmeichel believes Neuer is the best option
for the Red Devils.
Neuer has also announced to leave the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues at the end of the season. However, the 25-year-old wants to sign with the German Champions, Bayern Munich. Schmeichel added that Neuer is unarguably the best goal-keeper in the world today and will easily
fit in with United.
Talking to the reporters Schmeichel said, "He (Neuer) is probably the best goalkeeper in the world. He is 25 years of age. He's been captain for that team for a number of years. He is very mature in the way he plays. He doesn't make mistakes - I haven't
seen him make a single mistake - and the way he played yesterday, he wasn't lucky in the way that he saved the shots and one-on-ones, it was very calculated. I just thought his overall game was fantastic and absolutely well-suited for Manchester United."
The German goalkeeper ruled out a move to United last night and revealed that a move to Old Trafford was never in his plans.
However, Schmeichel believes that a trip to Old Trafford for the second-leg might change the mind of the shot-stopper. He added that the Old Trafford crowd will give him a warm reception and it might force him to reconsider his decision. The former Aston
Villa goal-keeper added that the Theatre of Dreams is a special place to visit for any player and when a chance to play here comes, it is hard to resist.
