Former United States international player and gold medallist Rob McClanahan happy to coach prospects
Rob McClanahan, a former United States hockey player, who was a part of gold medal winning team of 1980 Olympic Games, is very happy and excited to help the young U.S players.
As a player, he served with Buffalo Sabres and had a great time and now he would be looking to do same as a coach as he returns back to the same place as the coach of Team McClanahan in CCM/All American’s prospect’s game. The game is to be played in next
at this weekend on Saturday, 29th September.
It would be a very interesting game as their opponent side would be coached by Phil Housley and would be called Team Housley. It would be featuring top 40 prospects from USA and all of those players would be featuring in the 2013 NHL Draft next year.
Talking to NHL.com, the 54-year-old former forward expressed the feeling of excitement and thinks it would be fun to do it. He would be looking to make an impact and motivate the kids as he knows what it feels like, as he once was a part of it long time
back. He said,
"It's fun for me to be part of it. I have very little impact, and will have very little impact, on this particular game or what these kids end up doing. If I'm able to shed some light, in some respects, to help them cross that threshold [to the NHL], then
that's great."
Former Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers player also mentioned that he is not emphasising on any particular player and is treating all the players equally. He also hopes that all of them perform well and make a team effort to win the match as he added,
"I'm excited to see all of them. I haven't focused on any one particular kid. That's not my intention. There are a couple aspects that are of interest for me. They're coming together in a short period of time”.
It would also be interesting to see how he guides those emerging players as all of them would be part of the next draft and he, himself was drafted 34 years back during the second round at the 49th position.
