Former Uruguayan youth coach Gustavo Ferrin lavishes praise on Sporting Lisbon's Andre Carrillo
Former Uruguayan youth coach, Gustavo Ferrin, has lavished praise on Sporting Lisbon’s Andre Carrillo, saying that the attacker only needs to improve on his off the ball skills to become a top player.
Having coached the likes of Luis Suarez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955 in the youth team set-up, Gustavo Ferrin has an uncanny eye for talent.
The trainer has discovered hidden gems like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luis-Aguiar-c22647 over the years and has polished them into the world-class performers that they are today. From grooming to developing their skills, Ferrin has done it all and now reckons that another
one of his protégés is on his way to becoming a star.
Andre Carrillo has played under the tutelage of the tactician during his stint in the Peruvian youth teams and has made a lasting mark on him. Speed and the ability to change directions in a flash are the qualities which the Sporting forward possesses, according
to the manager, but Ferrin claims that he can get even better if he develops his off the ball skills.
Speaking to reporters, the former Coffee Growers youth boss said that the player was able to adapt to different footballing surroundings very naturally and his talents enabled him to be better than his teammates.
"Everything was natural. He was always a step ahead towards others. He always had that innate talent to quickly change speed and direction with the ball at his feet. Just had to learn to play without it!"
Recalling when he first saw Carrillo play, Ferrin revealed that the midfielder played in the reserve team but his potential was stunted as he was not deployed in his best position.
"When I first observed, he was in the reserve team but his team played him as a midfielder. We saw that was able to do much more and we changed his position. He greatly improved. But he has got stay with that work and he could be world top player,” he said.
While only 20 years of age, Carrillo has already earned a reputation for being one of the best in his trade and given the progress he is making, the forward will be a household name in the future.
