Former WBA heavyweight David Haye announces retirement from boxing – Boxing news
Former World Boxing Association world heavyweight champion, David Haye announced his retirement from the sport on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in a news conference in London.
Haye revealed he is now going to pursue his career in Hollywood.
Haye, who is more commonly known as The Hayemaker, desperately wanted to have a rematch with Wladimir ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ Klitschko after he suffered a humiliating defeat to the 6 ft 6 in Ukrainian giant on July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg’s Football Arena in Germany.
Haye claimed he will wait for Wladimir until his birthday and if there would be no rematch, he will retire. Therefore, the Brit officially announced his retirement from the boxing on Thursday.
The 31-year-old Haye, who during his career won 25 of his 27 professional fights, with 23 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he is now going to pursue his career as an actor.
“Once you don't have any drive, focus or desire that's when I assume you start spiralling downhill so the acting will be something new for me. I want to go into action films. I am looking forward to it,” Haye said.
Haye in the end insisted he will try to be one of the best actors. The brash Londoner added his new career will also help him keeping himself in a good shape.
“The next phase for me is trying to become the best possible actor I can be and taking the same sort of philosophy and mindset I had in the ring into the acting world. It will be a good way for me to keep training as well. My whole life I have been in good
condition so I just have to keep that up,” he said.
Bernd Boente, who is Wladimir’s elder brother Vitali ‘Dr. Ironfist’ Klitschko’s manager, recently revealed that Haye’s manager Adam Booth is in a constant contract with him for a Haye-Vitali bout and they are just looking for a good offer from a British
television channel.
Let’s hope Haye makes a comeback once again because a lot of people out there want to see him fighting.
