Former World Snooker Champion Neil Robertson looking to win 2012 Masters – Snooker News
Winning the Triple Crown of snooker, World Snooker Championship, UK Championship and Masters event, is a dream of every potter and they give the best of their skills to achieve this goal. Some of them are so lucky to win all three but the rest are still
looking forward to clinch them anyway. Australia’s Neil Robertson is also one of those who are still eyeing to become the Triple Crown Champion.
Amid the excitement of the 2012 Masters tournament, commencing from January 15, former World Snooker Champion from Australian soil is aiming to win the UK and Masters event before he ends his career as a player.
Speaking to the local media, the Aussie said, “It used to be the case that snooker had four major tournaments like tennis and golf – the World Championships, UK Championships, Grand Prix and Masters. The UK and Masters are the two I haven’t won before, so
I really want to win those.”
The Aussie potter did his best in the 2011 UK Championship, reaching the semi-final stage of the competition, but could not surge into the final, as he was defeated by Judd Trump in the penultimate stage.
Despite losing his hope of winning the 2011 UK Championship, the Victorian cueman believes that making his way to the semi-finals was better than crashing out of the event in the initial round. Robertson has been a consistent cueist throughout the season
so far.
He added, “I’ve had a couple of wins and semi-final appearances so I couldn’t be happier with my consistency. It’s building up well towards the world championships, which is what it is all about.”
Although he was unable to claim any major titles last year, he still holds an impressive track record. According to current stats, the Thunder from Down Under is holding a match winning rate of 79.2 percent after 42 match victories out of 53. Meanwhile,
his frame winning percentage is comparatively lower, which is 64.6 after clinching 208 frames out of 322. It will be interesting to see if Robertson can pull off a victory in the prestigious event.
