Former boxer Ricky Hatton reveals his emotional side – Boxing News
Ricky Hatton, former boxer, revealed how his softer side took over him in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao. Ricky Hatton was of the view that his training camp was no able to bring up to the mark because of which he lost to the Pac-man.
While to BBC Radio, the former boxer revealed, “I had peaked too soon, everyone in the camp could see I needed a rest. There was one day when one of my sparring partners knocked me on my backside.” He further said, “I came out of the ring, sat on the steps
and put a towel over my head and I just started sobbing and crying. They say 'you've over trained, you've left it in the gym' is the most common phrase used in boxing but my god it is the truest.”
According to him, he was broken from the inside because he felt he is not ready just 2 weeks before he was going to fight the number 1 and the fiercest boxer in the world. He said by then there was no way he could prepare more for the fight.
Rick Hatton started his professional boxing career in 1997. He soon became known as the ‘Hitman’ since he dominated the light-welterweight division with more might than anyone could have imagined. He defeated Kostva Tszyu to win the IBF championship in 2005,
which was his career’s most shinning victory.
Ricky Hatton was being considered among the top fighters of today just when he broke out after losing to Pacquiao and considered retirement. In the interview, he further said he felt so dismantled mentally that he would not go out with friends. He added
that he felt like the feeling of being unprepared, which pulled him down, was awful and he was not at peace. He said he even thought of suicide at a particular point in time and that is how much he was disturbed with whatever had happened.  
At the end, he thanked his girlfriend, family and friends for supporting him through this tough time or else he would have been mentally disturbed for his life.
