Former coach criticises Indian bowlers' work ethic
Former Indian bowling coach, Venkatesh Prasad has panned the Indian bowling department for a lack of discipline and commitment. Speaking to a cricket website, Cricinfo, Prasad said that the lack of good
performances by the Indian pace bowlers in recent times is due to the attitude problems he witnessed while bowling coach more than anything else.
Prasad revealed that while pace bowlers were expected to go through their routines diligently, the Indian pace bowlers did not have the discipline or the will to do so. Prasad said that the bowlers needed
to replicate the match situations in the nets and bowl for at least one to two hours daily, which they never did. He added, “You can't bowl 20 minutes in the nets and then bowl 20 overs in matches.”
Prasad was the coach of the Indian bowlers from May 2007 to October 2009, before being given the axe and moving on to coaching the Chennai Super Kings.
Prasad also said that he was disappointed at the way the bowlers bowled during their net sessions. Prasad added, “There were lots of players who, when you told them something, didn't like it. The player needs
to be honest.”
However, Prasad did have a good word for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566, and said that he had a good work ethic and would work hard in the nets. Explaining the technical aspects of the game, he said that Sharma was going
through a bad run of form because of his issues with the wrist, which was not exactly behind the ball when he delivered it.
Prasad also complimented the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754
and England. He has a great wrist position, control and can move the ball around at will."
He also added that Kumar needed to keep it simple and try out too many things in the match.
