Pakistan’s top class former cricketers such as Ramiz Raja, Abdul Qadir and wicketkeeper Rashid Latif have called for a players’ association in Pakistan.
The establishment of such a community will help domestic cricketers in resolving their various issues, especially their financial needs.
Two days ago, Aamer Bashir, a first-class veteran died of a cancer. The deceased player was only 38 years old and was struggling with cancer for the last two years. He played 201 first-class matches, scoring over 9,000 runs.
On the other hand, Aamer was receiving financial assistance from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board, though it was not enough to fulfil his treatment expenses.
Ramiz said, “I think the way, and the conditions in which Aamer Bashir passed away are sad and there are many other players facing similar financial problems. The formation of the players association will mean they can work for the welfare of players from
one common platform.”
Financial needs are one of the major issues that domestic cricketers have to face. A first-class player is not paid well at all, and therefore is unable to bear his expenditures. As a result, cases like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aamer-Bashir-c41383 get noticed.
However, current Pakistan cricketers like Younis Khan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 and Basit Ali
also provided assistance and made sure that their colleague receives proper treatment.
Abdul Qadir, the legendary leg-spin bowler also agreed on establishing a players’ association in the country. In doing so, the association can provide help to the domestic players in cases like Aamer.
Qadir said, “Even if the board does not give us permission we can easily go to court and get permission because I think it is the right of cricketers to have a representative body in the country it is long overdue.”
The setup should be more organised while dealing with such cases. So if somebody who is fighting with a deadly disease needs proper treatment, then he will have someone to look up to.
