Former cricketers hopeful of Pak-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 series in 2011: Cricket News
Although former Pakistan players are in favour of a series between their arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, in 2011, yet they have doubts because of the hectic schedule for both the countries.
However, former skippers of Pakistan including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Abbas-c98435 are of the view that the series between these two neighbouring countries can take place at a neutral location with the help of both Indian and Pakistan government, later this year.
Zaheer Khan stated, “The revival of Indo-Pak cricket ties is going to be a very positive development and it was great to see our premier and government officials visiting Mohali for the World Cup semi-final. It is very important for the development of cricket in this region and also for the betterment of international cricket that Pakistan and India should play regular Test and ODI series.”
Zaheer has also said that the bilateral series between India and Pakistan would be useful for both the nations, as it would generate a handsome revenue for the cricket boards and the players.
After the 2008 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 attacks, India broke all cricketing relations with Pakistan. However, after the ICC World Cup 2011 semi-final between both the countries, which was also attended by Prime Ministers of Pakistan and India, there are strong hopes that a bilateral series is on the cards.
Pakistan One Day International (ODI) cricket was also faded after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team which took place in 2009. The entire cricket scenario of Pakistan was lost. No foreign teams were touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 as they had security fears.
Former wicket-keeper captain Rashid Latif stated that it would be great to resume friendly games between the two countries but he added, “I don't support this concept of having matches at neutral venues because it robs the series of its charm and importance. Playing in Pakistan or India is entirely different and the atmosphere and expectations are different. I think if need arises Pakistan can go and play in India to start off this revival process.”
Another former captain, Javed Miandad, is of the view that bilateral series would not be possible in 2011 as both the teams have a very hectic and tight schedule ahead. However, he did support the revival of bilateral series between the two rivalry teams.
