Former driver Alain Prost says Ferrari needs a new teammate for Fernando Alonso – Formula 1 news
Former F1 driver Alain Prost has said that Ferrari needs to have a new teammate for their driver Fernando Alonso in the forthcoming season.
Alonso’s current teammate, Felipe Massa has been seen struggling with his performance in the season so far as he has only been able to score 2 points and is standing on 17th position in drivers’ championship.
On the other hand, the Spaniard has delivered some impressive performances in the first five races and he is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 61 points along with the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
The four-time world champion, Prost praised the Scarlet team and said that they should have two top rated drivers. He also said that it will be very difficult for them to take a driver who is capable enough to become Alonso’s teammate.
In addition, he said that he is not certain that whether they should take an experienced driver or give a chance to a young talent. Nonetheless, he said that they must have two best drivers.
“A new teammate for Alonso is complicated because he is such a strong driver. For them I think it’s best not to have two top-level drivers together. I honestly don’t know if taking on a young driver or a more experienced one is best. But in any case they
shouldn’t have two first-class drivers, because they already have a number one with Alonso,” he said.
Besides, he said that he is really impressed by the two-time world champion, Alonso.
“He is always there – always – and that is a characteristic of him. Sometimes his car is better, at other times less so, but he is always in the points, always there, never failing,” he added.
At present, the Italian team is at fourth place in the constructors’ rankings with 63 points. Furthermore, they are 21 points behind Lotus and 20 points ahead of Mercedes.
Over and above, they are trying their best to make the significant developments and the substantial preparations so as to improve the pace of F2012 in order to perform well in the approaching races.
