Former goalkeeper Mohamed Nasihin Nubli calls attention towards training of goalies – Hockey News
Mohamed Nasihin Nubli, the former Malaysian Number one goalkeeper, thinks that it is the right time to start a specialised coaching for the goalies so that the lack of quality in the goalkeeping may be remedied to produce well equipped keepers in the future.
Nasihin Nubli who had retired from international hockey in 2002 had been remained Malaysia’s Number one goalkeeper for six consecutive years. The seasoned goalkeeper has 138 caps under his belt while playing for the national team and has been enthusiastically
involved in coaching since his retirement from the national team.
The former veteran goalkeeper who was succeeded by Roslan Jamaluddin and S. Kumar has stated that there is a huge gap of quality and standard between the experienced and seasoned duo and the young national goalkeepers, who are the future of the Malaysian
hockey. He also stated that the duo is getting old and there is a need to seriously pay attention to the domestic goalkeeping.
Nasihin feels that the 1MAS Hoki programme that was started a year before in last September was a good move and he also stated that the goalkeeping coaching section should also be included in the development programme for domestic hockey.
“It’s easier to coach a player when he is already equipped with the proper basics. The technique and reflex parts can be picked up in training but the decision-making part of the game can only be gained through experience or coaching by a former goalkeeper,”
Nasihin Nubli, the former Malaysian goalkeeper explained his views about the coaching.
Nasihin Nubli who is currently serving as the head coach of the national senior women’s hockey team also stated that he is always ready to help the goalkeepers.
It will be interesting to see if the Malaysian hockey officials decide to include a goalkeeping development programme for their domestic hockey. Nasihin feels that a goalie clinic could be initiated to bring younger players into the concepts and training
on becoming potential future goalkeepers for both the domestic and national hockey side.
