Former great Rudy Hartono slams PBSI for poor management in national training camp – Badminton news
Indonesia’s former great shuttler Rudy Hartono, who is undeniably one of the best players in the history of badminton, slammed Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) for its poor management in the national training camp that has failed to produce world class shuttlers.
The former eight-time All England Open winner Rudy also expressed that the governing body is day dreaming if it expects to win the upcoming Thomas Cup Finals and Uber Cup Finals, to be held in Wuhan, China, in May.
The 62-year-old Rudy said that there is not much depth in both men’s and women’s squads and last year’s poor performance of shuttlers especially in Singles category is quite alarming.
Considering this, he expressed that if all Indonesian players deliver their best, they will reach into semi-final in Uber Cup and final in Thomas Cup competitions.
He said, “I’m not being pessimistic, it is the reality. It was hard [for Indonesia] to win [in the preliminaries]. Let’s not expect to win the cup titles. It will be good enough for Indonesia to reach the Uber semifinals and Thomas final.”
Rudy also highlighted all weaknesses of PBSI by saying that it has failed to produce competent shuttlers from the national training camp.
He said that the performance of national players particularly in Women’s Singles category remained quite poor throughout the previous year.
He said, “Have our women’s singles got into the semifinals in any [international] championship [in the past year]? No, right? We were only good enough for the quarterfinals. I say let’s just close down that national training camp. It has been giving the wrong training program for our shuttlers.”
In the last week’s Thomas Cup Preliminary Round, Indonesian men finished at number three while women remained at number five in Uber Cup Preliminary Round.
Rudy said that to win Thomas Cup and Uber Cup is not an easy task and to achieve it is not possible instantly.
He also said that PBSI should stop those shuttlers from participating in international tournaments who constantly fail to deliver good results.
According to Rudy, players should be hard working and disciplined which will help them in establishing their name at international level.
