Former head coach Bill Parcells says too early to declare Andrew Luck as top draft pick – NFL News
Former National Football League (NFL) head coach Bill Parcells said that he did not see Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck to be top draft pick in the next draft season that starts in April next year.
A mock draft exercise has already been started with current NFL season halfway through, and Andrew Luck has been labelled to be an undisputed top draft pick in the next season. The Indianapolis Colts who having lost all games are
at the bottom of NFL’s current season qualify to claim Luck.
Bill Parcells, who had been head coach at Dallas Cowboys from 2003 to 2006, said that it was too early to declare Andrew Luck eligible for the top draft slot.
"Anyone who says that this guy is the hands down, Heisman Trophy winner or the first pick in the draft right now, I don't think they know what they are talking about," the decorated former coach told ESPN Radio, via The Palm Beach
Post. "There's not been enough work done yet."
However, there are a number of reports in the newspapers that the former coach might be on a propaganda drive to deliberately lower the rating of Luck. The propaganda drive is part of the mock draft exercise which starts in November,
and the coach remarks are seen in the same context.
Teams determine rating of the potential candidates, who are the top university teams’ players, in light of the commentators’ comments and weighting given to them. Andrew Luck has been declared an undisputed top prize in the next
draft picks. Draft picks are the main recruitment source for the NFL. Top players from the US college league teams are hired to 32 professional football franchises.
“The bottom line in this business, unfortunately, is wins and losses," Parcells said, "and unfortunately it hasn't gone as everyone would have liked (it) to (in Miami). But there's still some football left. Teams improve as they
go, and maybe there's a chance that can happen."
A number of reports have already hinted at hiring of Andrew Luck by the Indianapolis Colts. They are also anxious to see about chances of Peyton Manning’s recovery from neck injury and comeback. However, they would have a choice
to trade Luck with any of 32 professional teams in case they persist with Peyton Manning. NFL rules allow them.
