Former junior hockey player Patrice Bernier becomes a Football star playing for Montreal
Patrice Bernier, a former hockey player from Canada who played it at the junior level in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), has now become a star footballer, as he is playing for Montreal in the Major Soccer League (MLS).
Every child dreams of travelling to Europe and play their teams before coming back to Canada and becoming and star, either it is Hockey or Football, but Bernier is someone who has seen success in both of the popular games and after playing Hockey at junior
level, is right on his way to become a legend in Canada, in the other sport.
When he was a teenager, the Brossard, Quebec native played for Val d'Or Foreurs and Sherbrooke Faucons in the QMJHL, but maybe it was his height which did not help him in the sport and he decided to switch to Football few years later.
The 33-year-old Footballer joined Montreal Impact in 2000 and played some university football in USA, before moving to Norway, then played some football in Germany’s Bundesliga and then moved to Denmark to play for FC Nordsjælland, which is one of the best
club in Europe. But now he has eventually returned back to the place where he started, Montreal Impact.
Talking to NHL.com, Bernier told his story that he played both games when he was 18 but then he realized that it was too tough and hectic to play both sports at the same time as sometimes he had to play both of them in the same day. According to him, he
could also have featured in tournaments of both in a same day, as he said,
"I played both sports until I was about 18. I went through all the rankings in soccer and hockey. I could have a tournament where I played hockey in the morning and then a soccer tournament in the afternoon. It was a bit draining -- 365 days of switching
from soccer to hockey, sometimes in the same day."
The 5-foot-9, midfielder of Football does not deny that hockey is everything for the Quebec people, as he said,
"Before I reached the QMJHL, I already knew that I wasn't going to be playing hockey as a career. Coming from Quebec, where hockey is everything, it's an avenue you can't deny”.
