Former quarterback Donovan McNabb wants to be entered into Hall of Fame - NFL News
Former quarterback, Donovan McNabb was once one of the best players to grace the National Football League (NFL) but declined sharply towards the tail-end of his career.
McNabb was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 after spending 10 years with the franchise and ended up at Washington Redskins where he spent only a single year and spent 2011 on the bench with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikings released the quarterback after a few weeks and McNabb was not signed by any other team in the league.
The former quarterback never had won a Super Bowl ring even in his prime with the Eagles but came pretty close in 2004 where the Eagles were defeated in the main event by the New England Patriots by a close 24-21 score.
However, McNabb believes that his lack of a Super Bowl victory should not stop him from being entered into the NFL Hall of Fame.
Speaking to FoxSports.com the quarterback said that he has achieved a lot in his career even though he did not win the coveted Lombardi Trophy.
"What happens a lot of times is we look at what the list says, so we talk about the five NFC Championship Games, the six Pro Bowls and then we come to the end, 'Well, he never won the big game,' "
Adding further McNabb said.
"Well, Peyton never won the big game until he won the Super Bowl. Dan Marino never won the big game. Does that mean his career is a failure? No, not at all."
McNabb’s form declined rapidly after the Super Bowl loss to the Patriots and in subsequent seasons he struggled with injuries and poor performances.
He featured on the cover of Madden 06 but never recovered his previous form with fans going on to blame the Madden Curse for his problems.
Even though he has not formally retired the quarterback will have few takers in the new season barring a few desperate teams who might struggle with injuries at the quarterback position.
McNabb went on to say that if it was put to a vote he will definitely vote himself into the Hall of Fame.
“Absolutely. One thing people don’t realize, I never played the game to make it to the Hall of Fame. I played the game because I love it.”
Good luck with the Hall of Fame McNabb!
