Former rugby sensation Gavin Hastings happy to play among LET stars at Ladies Scottish Open
Former rugby superstar Gavin Hastings played the first round of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, along with star Janice Moodie, who carded a 79.
The Ladies European Tour (LET) event, being played at Archerfield, Scotland, is featuring several professional and non-professional players.
Non-professional players include celebrities from different fields, such as sports and showbiz.
Hastings gave an interview to the media at the end of the hectic round, saying that he enjoyed playing among professional golfers hailing from different countries.
The former rugby sensation said that he particularly liked playing with Janice Moodie. Sharing his thoughts about how he has been practicing on the course, Hastings said that he has not played much, but did fine at Archerfield.
He stated, “I loved it. It was great fun playing with Janice Moodie and Karen Lunn was the other pro. It was just terrific watching the girls as it always is. I enjoyed it”.
“I’ve played a bit this year and I thought I played pretty well. Unfortunately the putts didn’t just sink for us but there’s always tomorrow,” Hastings further said.
He added that the best part of his day was playing along with Karen Lunn. Lunn played surprisingly well in the start, posting a 74 to tie for the 33rd spot.
Hastings praised Lunn’s driving skills, saying that she amazed him with the way she stroked the ball on some of the holes.
He said that he was seeking to outshine the golfing sensation, which would have been a major breakthrough for him.
“Trying to out-drive Karen is no mean feat and I’m glad to say I managed to achieve it on two or three holes but she hits a beautiful ball. She’s a lovely striker of the ball as is Janice and obviously Karen was putting a bit better than Janice,” he shared.
The field comprised of players like the defending champion Catriona Matthew, Lynn Kenny, Carly Booth and Lindsey Wright.
Tournament officials said that this year’s edition has given a chance to several non-professional players, which is attracting plenty of media coverage and a large crowd.
The defending champ, Matthew, who was expected to steal the show, carded a 74 to tie for the33rd place.
