Wong Mew said, “When I was a player, all I cared was taking care of myself physically and mentally. Now I have seven young charges to look after. It is quite a demanding job because I have to be flexible enough to handle them as they have different styles
of play and character.”
She further expressed, “For me, it is a good learning experience to become a good coach. There are a lot of aspects to it, from working out strategies with the players, and training their physical and mental strength.”
The Malaysian also said that the coaching experience is completely new for her and it is quite challenging as there are many things which require attention at the same time. Wong Mew takes help from her sister, Miew Kheng, who has been working in the coaching
field for some time.
Mew Choo expressed that the stress in the coaching domain is different from the pressure of being a shuttler. She started working as a coach just a week ago and knows there is a lot of work to tackle in this field. She is willing to know the different styles
of players, along with their different characters.
The girls, who are working under her charge are, Norshahida Baharum, Lim Yin Fun, Cheah Yee See, Evelyn Chee Yi Lyn, Sylvia Kavita Kumares, Lim Chiew Sien and Nurul Hedayu Zainudin. All these shuttlers clinched their yesterday’s opening round matches in
