Former skipper Shoaib Malik insists his career ‘not over’
Former skipper of the Pakistan side and all-rounder Shoaib Malik has been ignored by the PCB for the preliminary 30 member squad for the 2011 World Cup. The PCB selection committee had referred his case along with that of Kamran Akmal and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 to the PCB integrity committee, who were responsible for investigating into the assets of cricketers. The integrity committee had earlier expressed their concerns over the properties and assets of these cricketers. It came to the knowledge of
the committee that Kamran Akmal owned four houses in Lahore in the name of his father. The committee claimed that Shoaib too had huge assets and properties; however he did not submit his documents despite their insistence.
Shoaib Malik talking to media persons has said that his career is not over and that he would soon make a comeback for his country.
"It is hugely disappointing not to be selected in the World Cup squad and what is more strange is that neither the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) nor the national selectors have given any reason for ignoring me. I was mentally prepared to be selected as I
am in good form and am performing well in the domestic cricket. But I don't know why they didn't pick me,” Malik stated.
The selection committee of the PCB said that Malik had not been picked since he was not cleared for selection. However, other sources within the PCB have revealed that the reason the all rounder was not picked for selection was due to the fact that he could
not explain the presence of 90,000 pounds in his bank account in UK to the PCB integrity committee.
The PCB integrity committee had conducted an inquiry into the assets of Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, Kaneria and Rana Naved. ICC was also taken into confidence before the selection was made. Shoaib Malik went on to clarify in front of media persons that he
did not have any sort of misunderstanding with anyone in the national team. He said he was ready to play under the captaincy of anyone.
"I am ready to play under any captain and offer him full support. The impression that I am an intriguer is not right. Missing the World Cup is a big setback for me but my career is certainly not over and I can still continue to play for another five to six
years, so I know that I can make a comeback," he said.
