Former teammates testify again against Cairns – Cricket News update
The efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lalit-Kumar-Modi-c72144 for libel received a setback when several of his former ICL teammates testified against his involvement in match fixing during the 3rd
edition of the now defunct league. Cairns had earlier sued Modi for his 2010 post on the social networking site
Twitter, accusing him of corruption during his stint as Captain of Chandigarh http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808.
The former Kiwi player had accused http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Modi-c76470 of maligning him in the eyes of fans and followers who admired him for his prolific career with his national team. He also accused Modi for disrupting his private life through his unsubstantiated allegations.
The IPL Chairman had agreed to provide the proof showing Cairns' involvement in match fixing. His legal representative had stated that Chris was raising hue and cry to cover up not just his but all the other such incidents that took place during the ICL
tournament.
Former players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajesh-Sharma-c83542 testified before the London High Court through a live video conference session to confirm Cairns' active involvement in match fixing while leading the Chandigarh Lions.
Gupta alleged that Chris had told him to score no more than 5 runs during the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Champs. "No, Chris Cairns told me between the innings and on the pitch as well," he said during the live conference.
The evidence provided against Cairns by his former teammates seems to be incriminating enough to substantiate Modi’s claims. The 41-year-old former Kiwi player had earlier dismissed Modi’s allegations as baseless and ‘wholly untrue’.
According to the official statement submitted by Cairns, his premature departure during the 3rd edition of IPL was only due to his inability to disclose an injury and had nothing to do with any sort of corruption. However, in the light of testimony
submitted by his former teammates, Chris has little left to defend himself.
The Cairns-Modi battle is also turning out to be a testimony against the cricketing world as fans and followers become increasingly suspicious of corruption in the game.
