Former tennis professional Martina Hingis of Switzerland ties the knot
According to Swiss celebrity magazine Schweizer Illustrierte former tennis star Martina Hingis of Switzerland got married to French showjumper Thibault Hutin in Paris, France. The pair is believed to have met at a horse show in the vicinity of St. Tropez in
April.
The magazine's website stated that Hingis and 24 year old rider Hutin held their wedding on Friday in the presence of close friends and family.
"Our wedding came as a surprise for many, but it has been in planning long in advance," stated Martina. Additionally, the magazine states that photos from the wedding will be released on Monday apart from which the couple intends to hold a wedding feast in
the summer of 2011.
Martina dated Spanish golf professsional Sergio Garcia apart from having dated British footballer Sol Campbell. Hingis was also engaged to Czech tennis player Radek Štěpánek for a short period of time, but split up with him in August 2007. The professional
has also been former tennis players Magnus Norman, Julian Alonso and Ivo Heuberger. In addition, Martina announced in March 2010 that she was engaged to marry a Swiss attorney by the name Andreas Bieri but broke off the engagement.
Additionally, Hingis spent a total of 209 weeks as World No. 1. The professional won five Grand Slam singles titles namely, three Australian Opens, one Wimbledon, and one US Open Women's singles title. Martina also has nine Grand Slam women's doubles titles
to her name.
Hingis is noted to have set a number of "youngest ever" records prior to her ligament injuries in both ankles caused her to temporarily retract from tennis in the year 2002 at 22 years of age. After a series of surgeries, Martina made a come back rto the Women's
Tennis Association tour in 2006.
Furthermore, the professional made it to World no. 6 after having won three singles titles. In the month of November in 2007, Hingis communicated her retirement from tennis after she was tested positive for cocaine during the 2007 Wimbledon Championship. Martina
nevertheless, denied using the drug.
Regardless, on the 4th January 2008, Hingis was banned from tennis for two years after both of her cocaine tests came back positive.
