Former two time world champion Michael Katsidis ready to make his return – Boxing News
Michael Katsidis, former two time world champion, is ready to make his ring return against Albert Mensah at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on April 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The fight will be the main event for ESPN2
Friday Night Fight series.
In his recent interview with Fightnews, Katsidis spoke about his plans and his rematch against Juan Marquez. When asked about his training for the fight, Katsidis said that Justin Fortune is a great trainer and his gym is outstanding, adding that he had
previously trained with Justin as well at the Wild Card gym.
Michael was then asked about his sparring partners for the fight on which he said that some Russian and African boxers are assisting him with the sparring and that most of these fighters are unknown. He then said that initially he was thinking of using Ben
Tackie but Ben has an attacking style, which does not go well against Mensah’s style since Mensah is a boxer puncher.
Katsidis was then asked as to why he chose to fight Mensah at 140 pounds and whether he was having problems at 130 pounds. He answered, “The last time I felt right for a fight was three years ago. This fight is at 140 and I want to prove that I am a force
to be reckoned with at this weight. I stayed at 135 pounds for too long. I have (promoter) Vlad Warton negotiating big fights at 140.”
The most prominent question of the interview was regarding Katsidis’ future plans. He was asked if he is looking past Mensah and eyeing the IBF title or no, he replied, “I am not looking past Mensah. Peterson has to get past Khan. There is the new WBC champ
Danny Garcia and also Juan Marquez.. But I am not looking past Mensah.. The world is my oyster after that.”
Finally, Katsidis was asked to share his views regarding his 2010 fight against Juan Marquez and if he is willing to go for a rematch. Katsidis replied saying that the fight against Marquez was selected as HBO’s Fight of the Year and there is no reason for
both the pugilists to get into a rematch.
