Former world champion Kimi Raikkonen not willing to talk about Formula 1
The 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen recently stated that he does not want to talk about the sport or about ideas of returning to it anytime soon.
Kimi’s father passed away during December 2010 and since then, he has been quite upset and confused at the same time. At first, he was not even sure whether he wants to race ever again or not but after a lot of controversy, the Finn finally revealed that
he would be back in the World Rally Championship once again for another season with his team Citroen.
Raikkonen had a very good chance of returning to Formula 1 in 2011 as Lotus Renault GP were quite interested in signing the Finn. Even after Robert Kubica’s accident when the team was looking for a replacement, Kimi Raikkonen was considered as a potential
contender for the spot but since the Finn revealed that he is not interested at all in returning to Formula 1 anytime soon, Renault revealed that they have signed Nick Heidfeld as a result.
“I have no interest in returning to Formula One. I do not want to talk about Formula One. Rallying is where I want to be. And it is good to be back for another season,” he told the media.
It is quite disappointing to see a driver like Kimi being wasted in Rallying. He is clearly a Formula 1 driver but one has to admit, he has driven for the top running teams for most of the time during his Formula 1 career but he was unable to perform up
to his respective team’s expectations.
He drove for McLaren for 5 years and he was unable to secure a single championship during that time. One has to admit that McLaren were not at their best back then but his presence did not help the team either. Other than that, he drove for Ferrari for three
years and barely secured a title during his time with them.
However, it would be great to see the Finn once again in Formula 1 but it seems that it is not going to be possible in the near future at least.
