Former world champion Peter Ebdon says Ronnie O’Sullivan can bring fireworks to World Championship
Former world champion, Peter Ebdon, has predicted fireworks from Ronnie O’Sullivan in the Betfred.com World Snooker Champion 2011 if the ‘Rocket’ manages to cope with the flaws in his
form that he has been showing in the current season.
Englishman, Ronnie O’Sullivan gave yet another threat of retirement after his first-round exit from the China Open 2011 at the hands of Welshman, Ryan Day. He telephoned World Snooker
and told them about his decision of quitting from the mega event at the Crucible Theatre.
However, he was given a week’s time to submit his retirement decision in written form to make it official, but the 35-year-old reversed his idea and decided to give his cue another chance
to spark at the table.
The Essex Exocet, O’Sullivan, has approached Dr. Steve Peters, a sports psychiatrist, to help him cover from his drawbacks and regain his form. The English cueman hopes to get better results
after his visit to Dr. Peters, as he believes the doctor can recharge his passion and love for the game and he can go to the arena with the same old enthusiasm and confidence.
He is drawn against Welsh cueist, Dominic Dale in his first-round match of the world championship which seems an easy clash as compared to Ronnie’s snooker skills. The match will take
place on Monday, April 18.
Peter Ebdon made his first entry at the Crucible a year before O’Sullivan in 1992 and he has witnessed a World Number 10 spot throughout his whole career so far, as he has fell down and
then bounce back again.
Ebdon shared his thoughts about O’Sullivan’s return saying that if the real Ronnie O’Sullivan turns up against the real John Higgins, Ding Junhui or any other top player, he really could
bring fireworks and this could be the best world championship ever.
Ebdon met O’Sullivan in the quarter-final of the 2005 World Snooker Championship, where he defeated him 13-11. After his defeat, O’Sullivan threatened to have a year off the game but soon
he came back in action. The 40-year-old Ebdon hopes that the ‘Rocket’ will re-launch with full flow, passion and speed in Sheffield, on Monday.
