Former world number one Tiger Woods to return in Players Championship – Golf news
Fourteen-time major championship winner Tiger Woods has committed to the Players Championship which is set to take place in Florida next week.
Woods maybe limping right now due to an injury he suffered in the Masters yet he will be in form for the world’s richest tournament.
Due to knee and Achilles’ tendon problems, Woods did not take part in the Wells Fargo Championship taking place in North Carolina this weekend. He sprained his left knee while hitting a shot off pine straw near the end of his third round at Augusta. Even
though he was in pain, Woods gave an amazing performance in the final round of the Masters. Playing really well on the front nine, Woods posted a final round 67 and tied for fourth place in the first major of the year.
Going over tests and finally getting rid all of the ambiguity; Woods announced on his Twitter page that he will tee off next week. He was undergoing rest and soft-tissue therapy as his swing coach Sean Foley told the reporters that he has also been wearing
a protective boot. Woods actually beat the deadline by three hours as Friday was the last day to commit to the tournament. The former world number one taking part in the event is surely a boost for the PGA Tour.
Current world number one Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy will not be playing in the Players Championship. Both the players stuck to their statements they made earlier in 2011 and hence will not be teeing off at Sawgrass. However, 44 of the top 50 players will
be on the course for this grand event.
All major winners and especially the newest one, Charl Schwartzel will be playing in the Players Championship. In addition, the top 50 players on the current FedEx cup points list will also be playing.
The way Woods participated in the final round of the Masters hinted at his old playing style. Giving a glimpse of the old Woods, he along with his fans is looking forward to the Players Championship.
