Former world number one Tiger Woods to start early at TPC Sawgrass – Golf news
Former world number one Tiger Woods is returning to competitive golf after taking a break.
Woods, who injured himself in the third round of the Masters, is back in form to tee off at the Players Championship this weekend. The fourteen-time major championship winner Woods will tee off on Thursday at 8.08 am ET in the first round of the world’s
richest tournament.
Woods injured his left knee during the third round at Augusta and in doing so, he damaged his Achilles tendon as well. Even though he was injured, Woods showed glimpse of the old top cat on his front nine holes of the final round.
Being in lead at one point, Woods did not do so well in the back nine and finished tied for fourth in the first major of the year. Despite everything, Woods played really well at the Masters and gave a ray of hope to his fans. He did not take part in the
recently held Wells Fargo Championship in order to heal his injury.
Matt Kuchar and the 2010 PGA Champion Martin Kaymer are in Woods’ group for the Players Championship. Woods has now dropped down to number eight in the rankings right behind Englishman Paul Casey. Being away from competitive golf for a week, Woods is really
going low in the rankings. He was displaced from the number one rank in October 2010. Lee Westwood, who recently won the Ballantine’s Championship, dethroned Woods of a rank that was his for five years. Westwood, being number two for sometime, has returned
to the summit of the rankings.
Woods, just like all other golfers was greatly moved by the death of golfing legend Seve Ballesteros.
“I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Seve Ballesteros. I always enjoyed spending time with him at the Champions dinner each year at the Masters,” said Woods on his official website. “Seve was one of the most talented and exciting golfers
to ever play the game. His creativity and inventiveness on the golf course may never be surpassed. His death came much too soon.”
