FIA has come up with some more rules and regulations regarding the mechanics, gearbox and fair play. During the last season, the hard working mechanics have been working all over the clock to get their cars ready for the race. The sports’ governing body
has restricted the mechanics of such a fatigue.
The next season will feature a record number of 20 races and the teams are expected to work harder than ever. FIA has now inserted a rule that the mechanics will be banned from the circuits before the start of the practice sessions and the qualifiers.
During the season, only four men will be allowed as an exception to continue working on the car, other than that will lead to some strict action from the FIA.
There have been some issues with the drivers manoeuvring their cars deliberately to gain advantage over their opponents in the 2010 season. Many drivers have been criticised for the deliberate actions and the FIA has decided to take action against such moves.
The rule stated that, “Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as more than one change of direction to defend a position, deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction are not permitted.”
In the last season, Michael Schumacher pushed his former team-mate Rubens Barrichello to the wall trying to defend his position and it nearly caused an accident. This move was criticised by many and Schumacher was handed a 10-place grid penalty for the next
race.
There is also a revision in the gearbox change rule. The drivers were penalised before if they changed the gearbox of the car within four races. The gearboxes were supposed to last four races before any change.
According to the new regulations, the drivers will not be penalised if they are required to change the gearbox for the first time. This means that the drivers can now change the gearbox within first five races.
The FIA has been coming up with changes in the regulations continuously and it is looking to bring in regulations which will help develop a better image of the sports. The sports governing body is concerned regarding the image of Formula 1 and the motor
sports in general.
