Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix rescheduling decision expected
According to the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the decision regarding the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix will be announced within a few hours.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was initially planned as the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season but due to political unrest and violent protests in the country, the race had to be cancelled by the organizers due to safety reasons.
However, it was believed that if the conditions in the country stabilize, the FIA could reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix around the end of the season sometime around the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
As a result, the FIA and the organizers of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) confirmed a deadline regarding this decision, which was the 1st of May.
However, due to certain issues, the FIA was unable to announce its decision. Therefore, the FIA has recently announced that a decision regarding the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix will be announced within the next few hours.
According to a recent statement by the organizers of BIC, they want to bring Formula 1 back to the country very soon but they did not mention anything about this year. BIC chairman Zayed Rashid Alzayani stated that the country’s conditions are stabilizing.
“We gratefully acknowledge the understanding of Formula One Management and the FIA in what have been difficult times. We also thank the continued support of the international motorsport community and Formula One fans around the world”, he said.
He added that the organizers of BIC are trying their best to resolve these problems and since the national situation has recently moved towards a positive side, the situation is now improving and the day-to-day life is getting back to normal with each day.
“Bahrain's Grand Prix is a time of celebration and hosting the race is a source of great pride for Bahrain and Bahrainis. It is a showcase to the world and we look forward to welcoming the teams and drivers and everyone involved in Formula One back to Bahrain
in the very near future”, said Alzayani.
