Formula 1: Bruno Senna out of HRT for 2011 season
The legendary Ayrton Senna’s nephew Bruno Senna became a part of Formula 1 in 2010 via Hispania Racing Team but unlike his uncle, he was unable to prove anything in his debut season mainly because of the fact that his team did not deliver a strong package.
HRT were unable to secure a single point and as a result, finished at the bottom of the constructors’ standings alongside Virgin Racing team and Lotus Racing team.
However, the team did not reveal its two drivers for the 2011 Formula 1 season through the FIA’s official drivers’ listing. HRT recently announced that they have signed Narain Karthikeyan for the 2011 Formula 1 season and it seems that his dream of driving
at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix might come to life by the end of this year.
HRT have not revealed their second driver yet but have said that it is not going to be Bruno Senna. HRT team principal Colin Kolles stated that the team is currently considering Karun Chandhok, Sakon Yamamoto and Christian Klien for the final spot.
“I can definitely say that Mr Bruno Senna is not going to race for HRT, 100% not,” he told the media.
The team signed Narain recently and many believe that it was mainly because of the Indian sponsor, “Tata” that he is expected to bring for the team. Kolles also stated that the team is considering some other options. It is believed that Tonio Liuzzi and
Nico Hulkenberg might be in their list as well.
Force India recently confirmed its drivers as well and it is expected that the team will have Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta as their full season drivers while Nico Hulkenberg might be their reserve driver if he does not find a seat elsewhere.
However, Tonio Liuzzi is still confident that he will stay since he has a contract that is valid until the end of 2011. Force India have not confirmed or denied anything yet.
It seems that Bruno’s chances of returning to the sport are extremely low since most of the undetermined seats have been confirmed, but he might find a spot in one of the teams as a reserve driver for the 2011 season.
