Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone says they would rather have ten teams in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone has said that they would rather have ten teams in the sport which are easier to manage as long as they do not lose Ferrari, after the departure of HRT.
HRT are not included in the teams’ list for the 2013 Formula 1 season and Ecclestone has asserted that he never wanted to have 12 contenders in F1 and is satisfied with the number of teams for the next year.
Furthermore, he said that he would even like to have only ten teams as it will be much easier for the promoters to handle them. However, he insisted that they cannot lose the Scarlet team as it represents the sport and has a tremendous legacy.
“I’d rather have 10 [teams],” Ecclestone told Reuters. “I never wanted 12.”
“It’s just that 10 is easier to handle, for the promoters, for transport. We’d rather have 10…so long as we don’t lose Ferrari,” he said.
It will be important to mention that Thesan Capital which owns the Madrid based squad was seeking for a buyer. But HRT have gone into liquidation. Furthermore, they started the process of insolvency on November 12, 2012 and announced that they were up for
the sale. Additionally, they offered to pay 30 pence for every single euro with no room for further negotiations.
On the other hand, when the 82-year-old was asked about the chances of anyone rescuing the team, he said that he doesn’t think that there are any odds for that.
“I wouldn’t think that anyone would want to,” he said.
Besides, he said that most probably there are going to be 19 races in the next season. However, there is still a room for the Turkish Grand Prix in the calendar which is yet to be confirmed.
“I don’t know. I’m waiting for the response from them,” he added.
The occurrence of race in Turkey depends upon the approval of government and the organisers are trying their best to get the necessary permission. Let’s see whether there will be an addition of a race in the next year’s calendar or not.
