Formula 1: Felipe Massa claims he still has potential to win
Ferrari’s Brazilian driver Felipe Massa says he will go for the drivers’ championship in the 2011 season and will not disappoint his team.
The 29-year-old driver said that he has the age with him and will be competitive in 2011. He claimed he still has a lot of potential and will be ready for the challenges ahead.
The Brazilian driver came close to a title win in the 2008 season when he finished the Brazilian Grand Prix with a win. His competitor Lewis Hamilton needed to finish fifth in order to win the championship. Hamilton was in the sixth spot until the last lap
and when Massa crossed the finish line, his team celebrated his apparent success. However, Hamilton dramatically gained one position in the last lap and won the title by a single point.
After that, Massa sustained a head injury during the qualifying session of the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2009 and was below par in his return to the sport in 2010.
Massa stated, “I am very motivated and excited, I have followed the development of the car up until the first race and therefore I really am willing to start this new year.”
He further added that the new regulations in the new season have motivated him to be even more competitive and win races. He admitted that there will be many things to learn for him but he will be able to adjust to the changes very soon.
Commenting on the car for the 2011 season, Massa said, “It seems that since the end of last year there was a lot of time, but time goes quickly, working on a car is not a simple deed. I think that with the strength of our work we have a competitive car from
the first race.”
The new season will be important for Massa as he needs to prove his worth to the team. Earlier, his teammate Fernando Alonso supported Massa and said that he would like to see him winning more races and be his rival in the drivers’ championship.
