Formula 1: Fernando Alonso confident of strong 2011 season
Ferrari launched their new car for the 2011 season on Friday and the Spaniard Fernando Alonso was confident that his team will be on top in the upcoming season.
Alonso was the runner up in the 2010 season to the Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel who became the youngest-ever Formula 1 champion in the sport’s history.
The two-time Formula 1 champion, Alonso said that his first year with the scarlet car was a big success but he will like to be more successful than the first year and win more races in the new season.
Reflecting on his first year with Ferrari, Alonso said, “2010 was an incredible year for me, the first year with Ferrari and I discovered a wonderful team, wonderful environment and really passionate for a driver.”
The Spaniard admitted that the new year will be nothing less than a challenge but he and the team are up for it and will deliver positive results.
He further stated that the new regulations will bring more intensity in the competition and the teams which will be able to cope up with the changes, will be successful.
Alonso was excited about the new season and said, “We always feel pressure when you race for Ferrari, especially for me. I had a difficult year and it is always important to feel excited to start the new year so I would like to start a profitable year with
results I am confident we will do that with the new car.”
He said that it was important for him to develop a good relationship with the new team and was feeling much more comfortable as he remembers the team members by their names now.
Ferrari were the first team to launch their car ahead of the 2011 season. All the other teams will be launching their cars later.
There is stiff competition expected amongst Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes and Red Bull as all of these teams will be looking forward to gain the advantage at the start of the new season.
