Formula 1: Lotus Renault GP's Robert Kubica out of the woods
Following the recent tragic accident, Robert Kubica appears to be out of immediate danger as he left the intensive care unit at the Italian hospital where the Polish driver was being treated.
Kubica has been shifted to the emergency unit at the Santa Corona hospital in Pietra Ligure as the youngster begins, what appears to be, a long and patient return to full fitness. Initially, the horrific injuries suffered during the Rally of Andora in Savona
appeared to be a premature retirement plan for the Lotus Renault driver. Having to be airlifted straight to the Trauma centre for a 7 hour long surgery via helicopter, the entire racing community held its breath as the youngster’s life hung in the balance.
The heart-stopping accident took place as Kubica went full throttle into a church wall after he made a speed turn, lost control and hit a guard rail that literally penetrated the rally car through and through. Thankfully, while the co-driver Jacub Gerber
came out of the accident unscathed, Kubica was trapped inside the vehicle until the emeregency services were able to sift through the wreckage.
As things stand presently, it appears that Kubica will make a full recovery if things go as planned and according to schedule. According to the Lotus Renault F1, the driver would require to stay at the current facility for at least a period of 2 to 3 weeks
before a proper decision could be taken regarding his next stage of the rehabilitation process.
Robert Kubica was easily one of the most promising prospects of the 2010 Formula One season. Often seen as the party-pooper for the likes of McLaren Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari in the title race, the driver was easily up amongst the best in terms of consistently
performing well during the course of the 19 races.
While the accident is a huge blow for the driver, it also puts his F1 team in a tight fix as they look to find a quick-fix to cover for his near season-long absence from the motorsport. Reports suggest that Bruno Senna and Nick Heidfeld are already short-listed
to prove their worth and appear set to put through their paces at Jarez in Spain this weekend.
