Formula 1: Luca di Montezemolo wants nothing but more wins in 2011 season
Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo recently told the media that he asked his team to come up with a car that will ‘immediately’ enable both of its drivers to win races and score maximum possible points in the 2011 season.
He hopes that the team evolves its new car with the help of wind tunnel technology and ensures that it would be suitable for all sorts of conditions at every venue.
Luca has been criticising the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for the sudden rule changes and the fact that they want to make Formula 1 a ‘greener sport’ through engines that are more efficient.
“I think that we have to concentrate on three fundamental points: first, Formula 1 is based in an excessive way on aerodynamics, which is the point, which makes the difference. In the 1970s it was more about the engine and mechanics, now it's all about aerodynamics,”
said di Montezemolo.
Since the teams will be allowed to use Kinetic Energy Recover System and movable rear wings, it is expected that they will experiment with their new cars a lot and as a result, races are going to be very unpredictable in the beginning of the 2011 season.
Ferrari recently announced that they will use KERS in their car unlike some of the other teams. Referring to that, Fernando Alonso said that he will lose some weight in order to ensure that their car performs at its best and the F150 has an ‘edge’ over its
rivals.
The new Ferrari also has an Italian flag on it and Luca believes that it was important for the team to do so.
“Over the last 20 years we've always sported the Italian flag on the car. I always thought that it is important. 2011 is the year we are even more Italian and we're proud being it. When we're listening to our national anthem after a victory of our country
it's always very emotional,” added Luca.
It is going to be interesting to see how well do the new cars of Red Bull Racing and Mercedes GP fare against the Ferrari.
The first pre-season test session in Valencia will provide a good measure of what lies in store for the Formula 1 fans in 2011.
