Formula 1: McLaren deny black livery reports
Team McLaren have denied all rumours regarding their decision to change the livery for the 2011 season.
There had been rumours in the media in the past few days that the team’s 2011 car will be seen in black paintwork instead of its typical chrome livery.
These stories were further fuelled up as the team launched its black and red official clothing recently as their official uniform for the 2011 season.
Many analysts assumed that this was the team’s attempt to differentiate itself from its former partner Mercedes, who has similar silver cars and both the teams have the same coloured team uniform as well.
Until 2010, Mercedes had reasonable shares in the team and hence the car colour and the uniform represented the team as well as the sponsors. However, since Mercedes will be merely supplying engines to the team in 2011, it was believed that the team Principal, Martin Whitmarsh will consider changing the paint now.
However, not only the team rejected the idea of livery but also wrote on its official Twitter page, “Black livery? Er, no: the same Rocket Red & chrome finish that you've grown to love since Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was born in 2007.”
The Woking based team further assured that they are very happy with their car colour and have absolutely no issues with Mercedes using the same colour.
Although some of the other leading teams like Ferrari and Red Bull have undergone some major changes in the team staff, yet McLaren made no big adjustments.
Last year, the team picked up the title winner, Jenson Button to drive alongside the old McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton. All through 2010, the duo had brilliant races and demonstrated a very cooperative and friendly relationship with each other.
Although the team was not able to win any of the titles, yet the team Principal believes that the year was a brilliant one for everyone under the McLaren umbrella and the lessons learnt from it will help them get back to the racetrack in a completely new form and spirit.
