Formula 1: McLaren deny black livery rumours
Team McLaren Mercedes is one of the most well known teams in the sport and have been a part of Formula 1 for more than 50 years now.
McLaren along with Ferrari are the oldest teams in the sport and just like every season, they are expected to compete for the titles actively again in 2011.
The UK-based team was one of the best of the 2010 Formula 1 season as they finished in second place in the constructors’ standings behind Red Bull Racing. Other than that, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button challenged for the drivers’ title until the very
end but unfortunately, neither of them was able to secure the title.
Nevertheless, the team is optimistic about 2011 and hope to deliver a very good package for next season.
There were rumours that the team will change its chrome livery in the new season and might use a black livery for their team officially. However, McLaren have rejected these rumours. Their current livery is one of the most famous and nice looking liveries
in the sport and other than that, chrome is their trademark colour so it is hard to believe that they will change it so abruptly.
The rumours also suggested that the team will use a black and red outfit for its drivers and officials in order to differentiate from their former work partners, Mercedes.
“Black livery? Er, no,” McLaren said via its official Twitter feed. “The same Rocket Red and chrome finish that you've grown to love since Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was born in 2007 will be used. That's official, btw.”
Both of the Mercedes teams are expected to compete for the title actively in 2011 and it would be interesting to see the competition. Mercedes can on top if they can deliver a good package for this season. Other than these two, Ferrari and Red Bull are going
to be another two teams to watch.
Nevertheless, McLaren have not revealed their car’s launch date yet while some of the teams including Ferrari are expected to reveal their new cars at the first pre-season test session in February.
