Formula 1 McLaren driver Jenson Button terms MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi a nutcase – MotoGP news
Formula 1 team McLaren-Mercedes driver Jenson Button has termed nine-time MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi a ‘nutcase.’
The nine-time MotoGP World Champion, Valentino Rossi and the rider of Monster Yamaha Tech3, Cal Crutchlow were in attendance at the recent launching ceremony of the new Silverstone Wing. Many other names from motorcycle racing world were also present at
the ceremony.
Some well-known drivers from Formula 1 racing world were also present like McLaren-Mercedes driver Jenson Button and Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber. The racers from both premier sports came together at the ceremony and while sharing the stage, they exchanged
some words.
Former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button in comparison to both the racing styles, told Valentino Rossi that the MotoGP riders are ‘nutcases’ and Button likes the fact that the riders can punch each other on the track while riding their bikes.
Button’s punching comment was in reference to the incident between Casey Stoner and Randy de Puniet. After the act, Stoner was fined an amount of 5000 Euros.
Button said, “What we do it pretty crazy it really is pushing ourselves to the limit. These guys are amazing riders, but absolute nutcases. I watched the race at the weekend and those guys are out of this world. It's how close they get to each other, plus
there's some punching going on as well. We can't do that, we can't reach.”
Button, who is known for his funny robotic appearance, was sharing space on the stage with Ducati team rider Valentino Rossi for the opening ceremony of the new Silverstone Wing. The new building consists of 41 team garages, a new pit, a paddock area, media
and conference sections and VIP spectators’ zones.
Managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, Richard Phillips was pleased to announce the unveiling ceremony of the circuit. He said it was one of the best motorsports facilities in the world and an iconic venue.
The Ducati team rider Rossi did some laps at the Silverstone circuit on a Ducati 1198 and was impressed by the changes, but said it is tricky track with lots of direction changes. The MotoGP will land at the Silverstone circuit on June 12, 2011 for the sixth
round of the season.
