Formula 1: Medical update of Lotus Renault GP's Robert Kubica
As per the latest reports from the Santa Corona hospital, Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica's physical condition is much stable after spending a night in the Intensive Care Unit.
The Renault driver underwent an eight hour-long surgery on Thursday in Pietra Ligure near Genoa, Italy. The operation was carried over the injured elbow of the Pole, which is hoped to get back to its normal condition very soon.
The 26-year-old driver met a horrific crash earlier this month during a rally race in Italy, a few days after stamping the fastest lap time of the day at the first pre-season test session at Valencia. Left with multiple leg and hip-bone fractures, a wrecked
arm and a completely compressed right-hand, the driver was flown to hospital immediately after the crash. The accident was a real severe one and many feared he might not be able to recover from it. However, not only he fought back the wounds bravely but is
also recovering with a rate better than expected by the medical experts.
In a report released by the Hospital, Friday morning, it was revealed that the initial few hours after the third surgery have passed peacefully. Kubica is much stable and all the vital signs are also steady now.
Previously, he had a seven-hour-long surgery that was carried on the same day of his accident, that kept his right-hand from being amputated. Moreover, another operation of nine hours involving his shoulder and leg was carried last Friday.
After the successful third operation, the hospital’s medical staff hopes that no more surgery will be required. However, it insisted that the driver’s following treatment will depend upon the results of these operations, which can take a few more days to
show.
Moreover, the driver’s surgeons refrained from predicting the exact recovery duration or telling when he will be able to hit the track again. The doctors insist that Kubica needs to spend another couple of days in the ICU while it will take him 10 to 15
more days before he can leave for his home.
