Formula 1: Nico Rosberg to test 2011 Mercedes in Valencia
Team Mercedes recently revealed that they will launch their 2011 Formula 1 car, Mercedes W02, at the first pre-season test session in Valencia.
The team announced that Nico Rosberg will test the car first before Michael Schumacher gets his hands on the new car.
Nico Rosberg will be the first driver to run the car for a few miles before it will be launched in the pit lane on the opening day of the session. Most of the fans expected the legendary 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher to be the first person to
drive the new car but it seems that the team is thinking differently at the moment.
It was revealed by Nico Rosberg that he will be going first with Michael driving it on day two. This means that the team is planning to keep Michael Schumacher out of the first day of the pre-season testing. Nico claims that the test session schedule has
been devised to be “fair” for both Nico and Michael but getting the first run on the new car is “something special.”
“It will be interesting to see how it (the W02) feels. You know pretty quickly how good it is going to be. It is probably unrealistic to go into the season saying we will win the championship, but we will succeed sooner or later. We are on the right track,”
said Rosberg.
Michael Schumacher was unable to impress in the 2010 Formula 1 season and could not outperform even his teammate, despite the fact that both of the drivers were using the same car.
Michael finished in 9th place while Nico Rosberg finished in 7th place and scored twice as much as the 7-time Formula 1 world champion did.
But Schumacher is quite confident about the 2011 Formula 1 season since Pirelli are going to be the lone tyre suppliers of the sport in the year. The German was not satisfied with the tyres Bridgestone introduced for the 2010 Formula 1 season.
However, Mercedes has vowed to produce a car that would be much better than their previous car. It would be interesting to see how they perform in the new season alongside the top running teams.
