Formula 1: Paul di Resta impresses in Valencia
Force India’s new full season driver Paul di Resta gave an impressive performance at the first pre-season test session of the 2011 season that took place in Valencia.
Paul competed in more than 100 laps and scored the third best time of the second day of testing which is quite an impressive result for the team.
Force India are one of the rising new teams and are progressing as each season passes by. The team finished in 7th place in the constructors’ standings in 2010 just a single point short of Williams in the 6th place.
They recently released Tonio Liuzzi but retained Adrian Sutil for another season. Paul di Resta was their reserve driver but because of his amazing performance in 2010, Force India decided to sign him as their full season driver for 2011 season. Meanwhile,
Nico Hulkenberg has been named as their reserve/test driver for the year.
The fastest lap at the second day of testing in Valencia was scored by Fernando Alonso followed by the 2010 Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel in second place.
Other than that, Hispania Racing Team’s new driver Narain Karthikeyan finished in 12th place after scoring a time which was more than 4 seconds slower than the top running drivers of the session.
However, results at these test sessions do not matter much and one cannot determine teams’ performances for the upcoming season from them.
The most important thing in these sessions is that which team gets more information for their car set up and tyre compounds.
“Another good day of testing for the team, gathering lots of information for the guys to work on as we prepare for the debut of the VJM04 next week,” said Force India.
Since Paul di Resta competed in 100 laps, it is believed that he gathered more information for his team than any other driver did.
