Formula 1 President Bernie Ecclestone determined to ‘fit in’ the Bahrain Grand Prix into schedule
The Formula one boss, Bernie Ecclestone is determined to somehow fit the recently postponed Bahrain Grand Prix into the racing schedule. The race was cancelled on Monday by the Bahrain Crown Prince Salman in response to the recent unrest in the country.
The Bahrain fee was reversed on Wednesday by Ecclestone in the spirit of good gesture to the struggling nation.
Ecclestone said, “No one had a problem with it then. If everything is peaceful, which we hope it will be, then we will try our best to fit it in. What has happened in Bahrain is desperately sad but one month ago everyone was looking forward to the race,"
he said.
Bernie and the Bahrain GP president agreed on the fact that the race will be rescheduled in the later part of the year, but in the already congested year it will be very harsh if Bahrain is squeezed in between any of the two races late in the year.
For that, Abu Dhabi has given a suggestion of swapping places with Bahrain. The World Motorsports councils Vice President Mohammed ben Sulayem said, “Originally, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain agreed to have a big separation on the calendar to make the most of the
exposure that a grand prix brings.”
Abu Dhabi was also considered for the test session that was to be held at Bahrain because of the fact that they both have same warm and dry weather conditions, as this was to test the Pirelli tyres on hot venues before the start of the season. Abu Dhabi
was turned down in favour of the Barcelona circuit.
It was thought that the Bahrain GP will be squeezed in between the Abu Dhabi GP and Brazilian GP which would have pushed the later in December. If Abu Dhabi is moved to the first place, Bahrain can easily be adjusted in place of Abu Dhabi on 13
November, 2011.
The decision rests with the Federation Internationale Automobile, for now it is declared that Australian GP will be the season opener for the 2011 Formula 1 season and Bahrain GP’s decision hangs in the balance.
