Formula 1: Robert Kubica believes Lotus Renault GP will be a strong team in 2011
Renault driver Robert Kubica recently stated that his team is going to be very strong in 2011 since they have produced a car that might even be strong enough to enable both himself and his teammate Vitaly Petrov to win races.
Renault’s peak time was in 2005 and 2006 when Fernando Alonso and Flavio Briatore earned the team both drivers’ and constructors’ titles and became the only team to beat Michael Schumacher during his peak time in the sport. Since then, the team deteriorated and was unable to produce similar results.
However, Kubica believes that 2011 might be the year Renault regains its pace once again. The 2010 Formula 1 season was really good for the team as compared to the previous couple of seasons as RenaultF1 finished in 5th place in the constructors’ standings behind Mercedes GP.
“I am confident that 2011 will be a good season because during this winter the team were able to work with a more stable financial and management situation, compared to one year ago. Eric Boullier said that he wants our car to win races this year - he expressed exactly what I feel,” Robert told the media.
Other than that, Robert Kubica was able to score a couple of podium positions despite the fact that he did not have a very good car as compared to the top running teams.
Since the team has Robert with them in 2011, it is expected that they might be a threat to the top running teams. On top of that, Group Lotus signed a deal with Renault and as a result, the team is now known as Lotus Renault GP.
With such a strong backing from Genii Capital, the team is now really strong and these developments might produce a ‘breakthrough’ for them in 2011.
“I am very aware that for winning a title you need several favourable circumstances. It is a bit like a gearbox - if just one of the gears is not working properly then the whole mechanism collapses or at least loses competitiveness,” Kubica added.
Robert Kubica plans to stay in Formula 1 and produce the best possible results for his team. It would be interesting to see how he performs in the season as the fans are expecting a lot from him after his stunning performance in 2010.
