Formula 1: Robert Kubica finishes Valencia testing on top
After three days of testing in Valencia, Robert Kubica of Lotus Renault GP finished at the top of the timesheets after he scored the fastest lap of the week on the final day of the test session.
Team Renault recently stated that they were really confident about the 2011 Formula 1 season and since Group Lotus has joined Renault, it seems that the team is now much stronger and believe that they have a car which would win them many races.
Renault revealed their new car before the first pre-season test session began on 1 February, 2011 and since then it has been at the centre of attention because of their unique exhaust system which is quite similar to the blown diffuser introduced by Red
Bull Racing in 2010.
The first two days of the session were interesting but since the teams were trying to focus on their cars’ development more than the ‘limits,’ the results did not give a picture of what the new machines are capable of.
Robert Kubica’s time of 1:13:144 was very impressive and it proves that the team has been working very hard on their car and they might create some problems for the top running teams in the new season.
On the other hand, Force India’s Adrian Sutil finished in second place even though they are using their old car for the time being. It seemed that the teams were trying to focus on the new Pirelli tyres and evaluate their performance more as most of the
drivers drove for over 100 laps.
Jenson Button finished in 3rd place while Mark Webber was the fourth fastest driver by the end of the final day of the first pre-season test session followed by Felipe Massa in 5th.
However, things are going to get even more interesting when McLaren also use their new car at the second pre-season test session which is expected to take place in Jerez, Spain.
