Formula 1: Sir Frank Williams optimistic about 2011 season
Sir Frank Williams, the founder of Team Williams, expects his team to perform at its best and give a very good result in 2011.
2010 was not the best year for Williams as they were unable to perform up to their standards.
He hopes that both of the team’s drivers take the chequered flag at every race as it will help him persuade investments houses to buy some shares in the team.
The team recently signed a new driver Pastor Maldonado who brought in a major sponsor, PDVSA- an oil company from Venezuela. The Venezuelan driver won the 2010 GP championship and the team is expecting the best possible results from him.
However, Sir Frank has abandoned the investment route of other F1 outfits. His main aim is to secure a bright future for the team so that they become more consistent and challenge the top running teams in each season.
Adam Parr stated that the company currently comprises of 450 people and he was discussing with his adviser to float some shares in order to bring in a fifth shareholder.
“The changes have undoubtedly made this [flotation plan] possible,” Mr Parr said.
However, the team was unable to give a promising performance in 2010 as they finished in 6th place in the constructors’ standings just a single point ahead of their rivals Force India.
The team won the 1997 championship with the help of Jacques Villeneuve who secured the drivers’ title back then. Williams was able to deliver a competitive package until the 2004 season but after that, the team deteriorated and became more like a middle
running team.
Sir Frank Williams is hoping that with the help of Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado, the team can rise again and by obtaining some sponsors, become one of the top running teams once again.
“I am sure sporting success will be a factor, as well as being able to attract new partners. There will be genuine market sentiment,” Parr added.
