Formula 1: Team Lotus reveal 2011 car in Valencia
Team Lotus recently revealed their new car at the first pre-season test session that is taking place in Valencia.
The T128 was the first car to hit the track at the second day of group testing and it looked pretty good. It seems that the team has decided that they are not going to use the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, a device used to store heat energy mostly caused
by braking before converting it into Kinetic energy to give a boost during the race.
Since the team did not take part at the first day of testing, they have decided to do a private session on Friday, 4 February, 2011.
The team went through a lot of controversies and problems in the recent past but it seems that they are good to go for the time being.
Team Lotus had a number of issues with their former partners Group Lotus who left the team after the 2010 Formula 1 season ended. Both parties were at loggerheads with each other as they could not decide which party should use the name ‘Lotus.’ According
to Tony Fernandes, Team Lotus bought the rights for the name but Group Lotus rejects his claim.
Since both of the parties are finding it quite difficult to come up with a solution, it was announced that this matter would be decided at the London High Court.
However, the trial went quite neutral and the judge stated that another session is needed to come up with a decision. As a result, both of the teams are going to use the name Lotus for the time being.
Team Lotus were unable to secure a single point after returning to the sport in 2010 but it seems that they are hoping for a much better result in 2011.
The team has retained both of its drivers, Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen for the new Formula 1 season. It was expected that the team might sign Karun Chandhok as their reserve driver but nothing has been confirmed yet.
