Formula 1: The Brazilian Grand Prix – Practice Session 1
Bettor.com welcomes you to round eighteen of the 2010 Formula One World Championship! The event is the Brazilian Grand Prix and the first practice session at Interlagos awaites you, our valued reader.
The story prior to the Brazilian outing sees Fernando Alonso from Team Ferrari as he emerged as the strongest contender for the driver's title after an incident-strewn Korean Grand Prix. Mark Webber, though, losing his championship lead, is still in contention
for the title trailing the Spaniard by 11 points followed by Lewis Hamilton who still has an outside chance. Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button would need nothing short of a miracle to win the championship but knowing the history of the circuit anything is
possible.
Stay with us and follow all the updates as we bring them to you as they happen from the Interlagos Circuit!
The session got underway, signalled by the roar of the Brazilian crowd that awaited the multi-million dollar sport since the start of the season way back in March.
All the drivers completed their installation laps. It was a dry track then, but overnight showerers were expected and it was more than a possibility that qualifying would be a rainy affair.
Chrisitan Klien had replaced Sakon Yamamoto for the first two practice sessions at HRT. The Austrian was racing at Interlagos for the first time since 2005. Jerome d’ Ambrosio replaced Lucas di Grassi at Virgin for the same duration… Its good to see the
lower end teams mixing things up and giving young drivers a chance.
Sebastian Buemi set the first timed lap of the session. Vitaly Petrov improved on the Toro Rosso’s performance with less than 60 minutes remaining in the 90 minute session.
The elites were soon making their mark as Robert Kubica posted the fastest time. The McLarens and Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) were yet to set a time.
With half an hour remaining, the McLarens joined the party as Lewis Hamilton headed the timesheets followed by the two Red Buls.
Things were going smooth; sorry, jinxed it! The 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix saw its first casualty as Vitaly Petrov crashed into the barriers. Yellow flags were out. At the top of the classifications, Vettel led from Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button
and Robert Kubica.
Alonso stopped on track at the end of the back straight while Kobayashi crashed into the wall. If such was the case on a dry track, imagine what would happen when rain hit Interlagos?
Vettel was still top of the charts with his team mate, Webber and Hamilton setting the top 3 times.
The session came to a close.
Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time ahead of his team mate Mark Webber; making it a Red Bull 1 – 2. Hamilton pipped his McLaren compatriot Jenson Button for third whereas Alonso could manage to be thirteenth after the stopped on the track right at the
end of the session.
Elsewhere, Robert Kubica set the 5th fastest time with Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg going sixth fastest. Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher, Adrian Sutil and Nick Heidfeld rounded off the top ten.
Brace yourself for the second practice session.
Stay tuned…
