Formula 1: The flurry of race tracks
Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has been at his best in 2010 when it comes to coming up with ideas especially about new venues in order to spread the sport all around the world.
The idea of a new venue for the US Grand Prix and a Russian Grand Prix were the best two ideas Bernie came up with and since there is a Russian driver in Formula 1 as well now, it is definitely going to help the sport grow even more. Russia is a very good
venue for any form of motorsports and since the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has decided to take Formula 1 there, Russian fans cannot wish for anything more.
The new US track is currently being constructed in Austin, Texas which is expected to become a part of the Formula 1 calendar in 2012.
However, the FIA has added an Indian Grand Prix for the 2011 Formula 1 season but it seems that it is not as easy as it seems to pull off a grand prix on such a short notice especially after the Korean Grand Prix. The Indian track is currently being constructed
and it is expected that the Indian race will take place in October 2010.
With so many venues coming to the sport, it is getting quite difficult for the organisers and every one to manage construction of so many venues at the same time even though they are not required. Most of the Grand Prix are expected to take place until 2016
and the teams are going to go against the FIA if they allow more than 20 races in a season.
Funnily enough, the Romans are still hoping to host a Grand Prix despite the opposition of Monza, Ferrari and most of the residents in Italy. They believe that there should just be one Italian Grand Prix per season.
Promoter Maurizio Flammini still insists that the city officials are not against this plan and he is arranging for the venue. Only Spain hosts two Grand Prix in a single season- the European Grand Prix in Valencia and the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.
“I am very pleased that the city has taken an official decision and has approved the continuation of all activities so that the GP can take place in 2013,” said Flammini.
