Formula 1: Virgin Racing Team to reveal new car in London
Virgin Racing Team recently revealed that they will launch their new car on 7 February, 2011 in London before the second pre-season test session begins in Jerez, Spain.
This means that they will not use their 2011 Formula 1 car at the first pre-season test session which is expected to take place on 1 February in Valencia.
Most of the teams like Red Bull Racing Team, Ferrari, Williams and Sauber are going to reveal their new cars at the first pre-season test session. It would be interesting to see how the teams use Kinetic Energy Recovery System and moveable rear wings.
However, it is expected that most of the back running teams including Virgin Racing Team will not use KERS at all.
The top running teams on the other hand are going to use it and some of the drivers including Fernando Alonso and Rubens Barrichello even stated that they will lose some weight in order to make up for the weight KERS is going to take.
Virgin Racing Team have not announced their two full season drivers yet and it is still not certain whether they will use a new driver for the first pre-season test session in Valencia or not.
It is expected that they might keep both Jerome d’Ambrosio and Jaime Alguersuari for another season since they are familiar with their driving style and it would be easier for the team to come up with a package that would suite them the best.
The team was unable to score a single point in the 2010 Formula 1 season and as a result, ended up at the bottom of the constructors’ standings. Same is the case with both of their drivers as they finished the drivers’ standings at the bottom.
However, the team is optimistic for the 2011 Formula 1 season and are hoping to at least challenge their rivals Lotus Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team in the new season.
