Formula 1 becoming too expensive for young drivers: Jarno Trulli
Lotus driver Jarno Trulli had a dreadful 2010 season. In fact, he was one of the worst drivers of the season statistically. Despite being very experienced, he was unable to secure even a single point.
Team Lotus recently revealed that they will be keeping both Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen for another season.
Nevertheless, Jarno Trulli recently stated that the journey of becoming a Formula 1 driver is becoming a bit too expensive especially for young and talented drivers who want to enter the sport.
Since small teams are preferring “pay drivers,” talents like Nico Hulkenberg are being left with no choice except working as the third driver for a team.
This will make it extremely difficult for young drivers who are struggling to become a part of Formula 1.
“Today it is so difficult for young drivers. Money is playing too big a role and the lower series like Formula 3 are too expensive. I couldn't repeat my own career these days,” he told the media.
Trulli has raced for teams like Renault and Toyota and it seems that he is aware of how these teams are working nowadays more than any other driver is. Since he became a part of Lotus, it seems that he has had an extremely difficult time but one cannot blame
the 36-year-old entirely for this problem. The car provided to both of the drivers by the team was clearly not up to the mark and as a result, the team failed badly.
“It was not a good season. It was a bit frustrating but its part of the business. I have accepted it as a transitional season. I raced for Toyota, with great resources and unlimited possibilities, but they never achieved what they wanted to,” said Trulli.
Nevertheless, Team Lotus was the best of the three new teams on the grid that included Virgin Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team as well. The team is confident that they will have a much better season in 2011 and it would be interesting to see what they
come up with for the upcoming season.
Trulli admitted that it was important for Team Lotus to close the gap to F1’s established teams as quickly as possible.
“On the other hand it is true that four seconds behind is too much. Now we are a year further ahead and we need a big aero step and a lighter and stiffer car. There is an awful lot to do and if we can do it, then we can fight with the back of the midfield,”
he added.
