Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone reveals South Africa, Mexico on his list after Russia – Formula 1
Formula 1 Management’s chief Bernie Ecclestone has recently revealed that South Africa and Mexico are on his list for a possible Formula 1 grand prix after Russia.
The Russian Grand Prix is expected to be introduced in 2014 while the US Grand Prix is going to become a part of the Formula 1 calendar in 2012. This sudden increase in venues is giving the sport the much-needed support as many Asian grands prix have been
introduced since the past couple of years which has increased the credibility of Formula 1 as a motorsport.
Bernie was the main person behind this idea and he claims that the organisers should introduce even more venues to the sport after the Russian Grand Prix.
“After Russia I would like to go to South Africa and Mexico. Both countries are trying to do something. Greece are also trying to do a Formula One race. The Germans will lend them some money,” he told the Independent newspaper.
Either way, the teams have clearly stated that they are not going to allow more than 20 races in a season. Since the Formula 1 calendar already contains 20 races for 2012, it seems that if the organisers of the sport want to introduce more venues, they will
have to get rid of some of the past venues.
Other than that, Ecclestone stated that Bahrain is going to be a part of Formula 1 in 2012 and the turnover will not be affected much either.
“I don't think turnover will be down this year. I think it will be flat because we were paid for Bahrain. I said we will give them the money back and they said don't bother. I think the turnover and profit will be more or less the same as 2010,” he added.
There are many European races which are quite legendary and cannot be replaced at all. The Asian races on the other hand have new contracts and replacing new venues is also going to be a big problem for the organisers if they intend to introduce even more
venues to the sport in a short amount of time.
