Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone says he makes all the decisions, not the teams – Formula 1 news
According to the chief of Formula 1 Management Bernie Ecclestone, he is the one who calls the final decisions, not the teams.
Bernie recently revealed the latest edition of the 2012 Formula 1 calendar after which the team principal of McLaren Martin Whitmarsh suggested that this should not be the final calendar of the upcoming season as it requires some more changes.
“It is not the teams who make the calendar, it's me. They cannot come to me now with their proposals. It's my decision. If someone's going to do something, it's going to be me,” said Ecclestone.
The 2012 calendar has already gone through a number of changes mainly because of the fact that the Turkish Grand Prix was uncertain and now it has been confirmed that it will not take place next year.
As a result, the calendar has been edited now. Even the US Grand Prix had to be moved since the initial calendar revealed that the race was going to take place in the summers which is not possible.
The race is going to take place in Austin, Texas where the weather gets extremely hot during the summers. People including Ross Brawn, the team principal of Mercedes GP stated quite clearly that the teams will not accept a season longer than 20 races.
According to the revised version of the calendar, the Turkish Grand Prix is not going to take place as a result of which, there are going to be 20 races in 2012.
Bernie is quite ‘touchy’ about making any further changes now and he has stated that he is not going to let the teams influence the Formula 1 calendar and he is going to make the final call.
The 2012 Formula 1 calendar is pretty much the same as the 2011 Formula 1 season except for the addition of the US Grand Prix and some changes in the beginning and the end of the season. The European phase is pretty much the same but still, the teams will
definitely not be happy about this statement by Ecclestone.
